Life can have a way of “sneaking” past us as we navigate the day to day activities and go through the motions of home, work, family, and other responsibilities.

And if we are not careful, we can actually ”miss out” on what God is actually desiring to do in us and through us.
As I took a pause in my own schedule today, God clearly showed me an illustration of a car’s steering wheel.

In prayer, God’s Spirit was firm yet gracious: ”I want to take the wheel. Trust my direction for your life.”
As I continued on my prayer walk, I pondered how this looked “practically” in my current world of busyness and more busyness.
I closed my eyes and imagined me no longer in the driver seat of a car, but functioning as a ”passenger.” The imagery reached my other senses and I immediately felt a load of pressure lift off of my shoulders in a very specific area of my life.
Boy, did this feel good…

God at the steering wheel could mean different things for your particular situation, but I imagine that most would agree that:
•The Lord knows the detours, stops, and ”traffic” better than us and He will never “steer” us wrong. He sees the bigger picture. (Isaiah 55: 8-9)
•The Lord’s desire to “steer” is ultimately for His Glory and our good. He wants to see only good fruit produced from our lives and efforts. (John 15: 1-4)
•The Lord wants us to rest in Him and experience the true peace that supersedes anything that would try to take the place of Him – addiction, love of money, unhealthy relationships, overworking, etc. (1 Peter 5:7)
•Our “passenger seat” position should not equate to laziness or a disregard for necessary responsibilities, but our position helps us gain a better perspective about where our devotion lies and where our hearts are being fulfilled. (Exodus 20:3)
Isaiah 48:17 (The Message): “I am God, your God, who teaches you how to live right and well. I show you what to do, where to go.”

Are you with me?
