Do not love sleep or you will grow poor; stay awake and you will have food to spare.
Proverbs 20:13
The beginning of a new month is always a bright beaming light of “hope” in my opinion. It represents a clean slate. It offers a completely fresh calendar and planner page with opportunities to do some things a little differently than prior months.

Today I had a “rescheduling” in my appointment calendar, so my little one and I did a little homeschooling in the morning. I prepped a big dinner in advance, did some laundry, and cleaned the kitchen. We even caught a matinee at the movie theater.
Some might say that I did enough, but God and I knew that wasn’t the case as there was even more to do…
And when my opening Proverb popped up in my personal devotional, it was immediate confirmation that I needed to go deeper with some other duties – like posting a blog today as I’d planned and get organized for upcoming August projects that God placed on my radar and heart. My day was simply not over. Period.
Yes, there will be some days that I can take a nap or get lost in a good fiction book in my free moments. But there will be other days that I really just need to get some things done for the sake of fulfilling not just my roles at home (which are of extreme importance), but also for the sake of fulfilling my roles that impact others around me.
So today I’m grateful for direct and heart-provoking Proverbs like these and I keep going with the help of the Lord...
Do not love sleep or you will grow poor; stay awake and you will have food to spare
Proverbs 20:13
And I relish in God’s love for me and his ability to give me “work” to complete…
She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night.
Proverbs 31: 17 – 18
And when I need to pause (because I’m human), there is grace for that as well…
And Jesus said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a secluded place and rest a while.” (For there were many people coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.) They went away in the boat to a secluded place by themselves.
Mark 6: 31 – 32
