The Radiant Ones…

Those who look to him (God) for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.

Psalm 34:5

Have you ever experienced “the glow” or witnessed others with “the glow” that surpasses a bronze sun tan, moisturizing lotion, or beautiful makeup application?

“The glow” can be described as the inner peace that actually bubbles over into a person’s mood, demeanor, speech, mannerisms, and many times their actual face.

Some might equate a perfect existence with the life of these “radiant ones.” But David in Psalm 34:5 contradicts this reality and testifies of the ability to possess joy amidst the struggle.

The time period of the stated scripture (Psalm 34) places David in a precarious position – displaced and on the run from an enemy (King Saul) who wanted to destroy him. As David bounced from place to place, he would discover that his dilemma was not necessarily a secret among the neighboring towns and communities. So not only was David on someones hit list, but just about everyone and their mother knew the story behind his travels.

How easy could it have been for shame to settle in, take a seat, and stay for the long haul in David’s life… But God had other plans

God drew David into precious moments to seek Him and Him alone. In the caves, God was there with him. On the run, God was there with him. Through the confusion and tears, God was there with him. And with a target on his back, God was still there with him.

David could boldly testify:

Those who look to him (God) for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.

Psalm 34:5

No perfection was needed. No flawless caption on an IG or FB post about a faux “good life” was necessary. God was David’s true source of peace, provision, and joy.

Today, you may find yourself in a less than ideal situation. But what if you could be known for being one of the “radiant ones” like David?

Take a moment to reflect.

How could God be using your challenges to grow closer to you? In what areas of your life could you turn to Him for help?

Embrace being perfectly imperfect.
